Using comments are a good idea when designing a Database by hand and the same is true with Database Schema Designer.   The Comment object has been provided to help the designer give a visual roadmap of their Schema.   A Comment can be used to visually separate sections of the Schema, label objects and provide the designer a place to keep their current ideas or notes for the future.

• Add / Edit a Comment

  1. If Adding a new Comment:

     There are a number of methods to create a new Comment.   Choose the one you are most comfortable with:

     • Open Manage Comments screen and click the "Add" button.   See Manage Schema Objects Tutorial
     • Select "Insert -> Comment" from the main menu.
       
     • Click the "+C" icon on the main screen's Toolbar.
       
     • Right Click the Schema and select "New -> Comment".
       

     If Editing an existing Comment:

     There are a number of methods to edit an existing Comment.   Choose the one you are most comfortable with:

     • Open Manage Comments screen and click the "Edit" button with the Comment selected.   See Manage Schema Objects Tutorial
     • Double Click the Comment in the Schema.
  2. Editing Comment Properties:
     • Enter a Title for the Comment if desired.
       
     • Enter the Comment Text if desired.
       
     • You must enter a Title, Text or both to create a valid Comment.
     • Toggle the Display checkbox to determine if the Comment is displayed in the Schema.
       
  3. Click OK to submit your changes.
     - OR -
     Click Cancel to discard your settings.
• Delete a Comment

  There are a number of methods to delete a Comment from the Schema.  Choose the one you are most comfortable with:

  • Open the Manage Comments screen and click Delete with the Comment selected.   See Manage Schema Objects Tutorial
  • Click the "X" icon on the main screen's Toolbar with the Comment(s) selected.
    
  • Click "Edit -> Delete" from the main menu.
    
  • Use the keyboard command "Ctrl + D" or "Delete" from the main screen.
  • Right Click the Comment in the main screen and select Delete.
